What is the Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation?
The Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation operates the Dare to Dream Camp and
was created to honor the life of the Late NASCAR Winston Cup Driver
Kenny Irwin Jr. The Foundation, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, serves
the needs of underprivileged, neglected, at-risk and abused children
through inspirational activities and mentoring that allow them to
pursue their dreams.
Where is my money going?
The Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation and the Dare to Dream Camp’s current
capital goal is $4.5 million to be used for several new developments and
improvements.
What kind of children do you serve?
The Dare to Dream Camp will accommodate underprivileged, neglected,
at-risk, and abused children between the ages of five to 17.
Where will the children come from? How are they selected?
The Dare to Dream Camp is open to all disadvantaged, neglected, at-risk,
and abused children throughout the country, regardless of race, creed or
color. Our summer programs can accommodate 60-100 children each
session, and applications for attendance are accepted on a first-come
basis.
What activities will the camp offer?
The children who attend the Dare to Dream Camp will enjoy swimming,
paddle boating, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, basketball, shuffle board,
miniature golf, nature walks, cookouts, bonfires, performing arts, and many
other activities that help to lift them mentally, physically, emotionally and
spiritually.
How much does it cost to run the camp?
We estimate that operating costs for the Dare to Dream Camp, when fully
completed, will be approximately $1.2 million annually.
Do the families of the children have to pay for them to
attend?
The Dare to Dream Camp is free of charge to the children and their
families who cannot meet the modest cost to attend. To meet our expenses
and operating costs, we will rely upon the generosity of our sponsors
and donors.
What types of donations will you accept?
Cash contributions are the most common type of gift, since cash allows us
to immediately cover our operating costs. It is also the simplest contribution
to document for tax purposes.
However, there are many other contributions that can benefit our organization.
These contributions can include: appreciated property (including
stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and certain real estate), tangible personal
property (such as furniture, art works, collectibles, etc.), bequests and
other forms of planned giving tools.
Donations of building materials, program and medical supplies, food,
outdoor and sporting equipment, and other non-monetary gifts are also
gratefully accepted. For tax purposes, a gift is considered made on the
date it is mailed, hand delivered or ownership transferred. For appreciated
property and in-kind gifts, we will recognize the gift based upon it fair
market or retail value.
How will my gift be recognized?
We greatly appreciated the contributions of our donors and sponsors,
and want to make every effort to acknowledge and thank you for your
donations. Since we are a relatively new organization, our board is
currently developing a recognition policy that acknowledges our donors
and sponsors at every level. In addition, all our buildings are available for
naming. A list of commemorative building naming opportunities is available
from our staff. If you wish for your contribution to remain anonymous, we
will make every effort to respect those wishes.
Is my gift tax deductible?
The Kenny Irwin Jr. Memorial Foundation and Dare to Dream Camp is
a 501 C 3 non-profit organization. All contributions and pledges are tax
deductible, with the amount of your deduction varying according to the
type of donation that is made. In many cases, the tax advantages make
the real out-of-pocket costs to you much less than the face value of the
recorded gift. All gifts are considered received on the date it is mailed or
hand-delivered. Please consult with your accountant
regarding tax deductibility issues.
How much needs to be raised?
In order to complete phase 2, we need to raise $4.5 million to reach our
fund raising goal.
What is the Dare to Dream Camp’s privacy policy?
The Kenny Irwin Jr. Memorial Foundation and Dare to Dream Camp value
and respect the privacy of both our visitors and donors. The information
you provide will only be used to acknowledge and process contributions
and to keep you informed of events, opportunities and camp activities. We
do not sell or give your information to vendors, although we may occasionally
provide contact information to foundations or organizations that may
interest you. However, if you do not want us to make your information
available in any circumstance or do not want us to contact you, please let
us know in writing and we will honor your request.
